Mangaluru, Jan 3: Police authorities have made it clear that gambling in the name of cockfights will not be permitted and that cases will be registered against organisers found violating the law.
In a statement, the police said they would not allow any activity that involves or promotes gambling in any form. They cautioned that strict legal action would be taken against those organising cockfights for monetary gain or allowing betting under any pretext.

At the same time, the police noted that organisers had claimed cockfights to be a traditional practice and had expressed willingness to execute a bond. Considering this, police said they had permitted such events to be conducted only for a limited period and strictly under close supervision, without any form of gambling, betting or collection of money in any name.
Police further emphasised that permission does not imply immunity from legal action. They stated that they reserve the right to book cases against anyone at any time if any law is violated.
The police reiterated that maintaining law and order remains their priority and urged the public to strictly adhere to legal provisions.
