Mumbai, Jan 3: Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra is reportedly gearing up for his next big-screen outing, with buzz suggesting a possible collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. Though an official announcement is awaited, industry sources say discussions are at an advanced stage.
According to reports, Sidharth is set to begin work on a new project backed by producer Mahavir Jain. While the film’s details are being kept under wraps, Rajkumar Santoshi is said to be the frontrunner to direct the venture, marking his first collaboration with the actor.

A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said Santoshi is considered an ideal choice given his versatility. “Rajkumar Santoshi’s strength lies not only in powerful films like Ghayal, Damini, Ghatak and Khakee, but also in entertaining hits such as Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. He knows how to deliver a wholesome entertainer, and this film suits his sensibilities. Talks with him are at an advanced stage,” the source said.
Earlier, filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa was reportedly in contention to helm the project, but the makers are now said to be more inclined towards Santoshi. Another source revealed that pre-production work is progressing rapidly and the director is expected to be finalised soon. Discussions are also underway to rope in a senior actor for a key role.
The film, written by Sanjeev, is expected to blend comedy with suspense. Reports suggest that Sidharth Malhotra was drawn to the project as it will present him in a fresh avatar, prompting him to put in extensive preparation for the role.
On the work front, Rajkumar Santoshi is currently busy with Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal. The film marks yet another collaboration between Santoshi and Deol after Ghayal and Damini.
Sidharth Malhotra, meanwhile, will next be seen in One: Force of the Forest, co-starring Tamannaah Bhatia, which is slated for a theatrical release in May.
