Panaji, Dec 26: Residents of Chimbel have intensified their protest against the proposed Unity Mall and Prashasan Stambh projects, citing concerns over environmental degradation and loss of biodiversity in the area.
The protesters alleged that the projects pose a serious threat to Toyaar Lake, warning that construction activities could disrupt the local ecological balance. Holding placards and staging demonstrations near the proposed project site, villagers reiterated their demand that the projects be scrapped immediately.

As part of the escalating agitation, residents have announced a gherao of the Chimbel Panchayat on December 26, followed by a hunger strike beginning December 28.
To garner wider public support, organisers have also planned a massive rally across various wards of Chimbel on January 1. The protest programme is set to conclude with a Maha Sabha on January 4.
The villagers have maintained that the development plans threaten the region’s natural resources and livelihoods, urging authorities to reconsider the projects in the larger public and environmental interest.
