Panaji, Dec 20: Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday expressed confidence that the BJP, along with its alliance partners and supported Independent candidates, is poised for a strong performance in the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections scheduled to be held on Sunday.

Highlighting the state government’s focus on people-centric and development-oriented schemes, the Chief Minister said initiatives in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming and rural livelihoods have directly benefitted local communities, helping the party consolidate its grassroots presence.

He said these schemes have encouraged villagers to take up new occupations and improve their incomes, particularly in panchayat areas, thereby strengthening rural development.

Dr Sawant also pointed out that the government plans to enhance financial support for women self-help groups, especially at the zilla panchayat level, as part of efforts to empower rural women and accelerate local development.

“These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable rural progress,” he said, adding that such measures would have a positive impact on voter sentiment.

Expressing optimism about the BJP’s prospects, the Chief Minister said, “Our BJP flag will fly tall.” He also appealed to voters in panchayat areas to participate actively in the democratic process, stressing the importance of public participation in shaping rural governance and development.

The Chief Minister’s remarks underline the BJP’s strategy of projecting its development schemes and welfare initiatives as key factors in the ZP elections.
