Major fire breaks out at Bhubaneswar bar; blaze sparks fresh concerns over fire safety

Daijiworld Media Network - Bhubaneshwar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: A massive fire broke out at a bar located in the Satya Vihar area of Bhubaneswar on Friday morning, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing from the top floor of the multi-storey building. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

Firefighters swiftly reached the spot and succeeded in containing the blaze before it could spread to adjacent structures in the densely populated neighbourhood, preventing what could have been a major disaster.

Authorities are currently probing the cause of the fire. Preliminary suspicion points to a possible short circuit, but officials say the exact reason is yet to be confirmed.

The Bhubaneswar fire comes close on the heels of the Goa nightclub inferno, which claimed 25 lives in Arpora earlier this week. Initial investigations into the Goa tragedy revealed shocking lapses—heavy use of flammable materials in the club’s interior décor, non-functional fire extinguishers, and suspected use of electric fireworks, which are believed to have triggered the deadly blaze.

With yet another fire scare emerging from a popular public space, questions are once again being raised about fire safety preparedness, inspection norms, and compliance standards for bars, restaurants, and nightlife venues across the country.

Authorities are expected to review safety protocols as investigations into the Bhubaneswar incident continue.
