Patna, Dec 8: A horrifying road accident in Patna’s upscale Gola Road area left six pedestrians injured, with 60-year-old Chansi Rai succumbing to his injuries. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Danapur police and has sparked widespread concern over pedestrian safety in Bihar.

The accident took place near Jhakri Mahadev Temple. CCTV footage shows three young men standing by the roadside with a dog nearby when a speeding black sedan ran over the dog and then struck four people in a single sweep. The car briefly halted, trapping a man under its front wheel, but the driver accelerated again, crushing him a second time. Bystanders attempted to intervene, some striking the vehicle, but the driver continued recklessly, running over another person before speeding toward JP Ganga Path (Marine Drive).

Chansi Rai was initially taken to the Military Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Raja Bazaar, where he passed away Monday morning. Five others remain critically injured at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Danapur police and traffic officials responded promptly. Using CCTV footage, the vehicle’s number plate was identified, and authorities tracked the car toward Marine Drive.

Danapur SHO Prashant Bhardwaj confirmed that a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered and assured that the driver will be apprehended soon.

The incident has reignited concerns over road safety in Bihar, highlighting ongoing issues of speeding, reckless driving, and insufficient enforcement measures that endanger pedestrians.
