Mangaluru, Dec 5: Mangaluru Junction Railway Station (MAJN) has officially unveiled a full suite of accessibility features designed to support persons with disabilities (PwDs), senior citizens, and mobility-impaired travellers. The project was implemented after receiving formal approval from Southern Railways – Palakkad Division, marking a significant milestone in making one of coastal Karnataka’s busiest railway hubs disability-friendly.
This large-scale accessibility initiative has been made possible through a collaborative effort between the Young Indians (Yi) Mangaluru Chapter, CodeCraft Technologies through its CSR initiative, and accessibility implementation partner Anuprayaas, working closely with the Mangaluru Junction Railway Station (MAJN) authorities. The implementation now completed and live, Mangaluru Junction stands as a one of a model station for accessible public transport in Karnataka.




Accessibility features now available at Mangaluru Junction
For visually impaired (blind & low-vision passengers):
- Installed fixed metallic braille maps at station entry points
- Metallic braille indicators along platforms and key railings
- Braille signboards for toilets, lifts, waiting rooms, ticket counters, and station master room
- Braille booklets at the ticket counter with complete station layout
- Reflective strips & tactile tiles at platform steps (Phase-2 rollout)
For deaf & hard-of-hearing passengers:
- Indian Sign Language (ISL) video guide via QR code displays
- QR scan redirects to a detailed YouTube Indian sign language navigation video
- LED digital display at the entrance showing the same content shall be placed at the entrance
For mobility-impaired travelers, wheelchair users & senior citizens:
- Portable ramps for barrier-free boarding and alighting
- Information boards highlighting all accessibility facilities

Mangaluru Junction sees over 12.25 lac passengers annually, making accessibility essential for safety and comfort. These upgrades enhance independent navigation, restore dignity, and reduce travel anxiety for passengers with disabilities.
