Hyderabad, Dec 5: The much-anticipated Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Akhanda 2 was scheduled to hit theatres on Friday, 5 December, following weeks of promotions across the Telugu states. However, the release was abruptly postponed just hours before the preview shows, leaving fans disappointed.
While the makers initially cited “technical issues beyond our control,” the real reason appears linked to a court case involving the production house 14 Reels Entertainment and Eros International. On Thursday, Eros International Media Limited stated that the Madras High Court passed an injunction preventing the release of Akhanda 2. The decision follows Eros’ appeal connected to a long-standing arbitral award against 14 Reels, under which Eros is owed approximately Rs 28 crore.

Eros argued that 14 Reels attempting to release the film would be “an indirect attempt to flout the arbitral award and avoid compliance with legally determined financial obligations.” A Division Bench comprising Justices SM Subramaniam and C. Kumarappan barred the release, distribution, or commercial exploitation of Akhanda 2 until further orders.
Reacting to the postponement, 14 Reels Entertainment posted on X: “With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances… We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us.”
