New Delhi, Nov 29: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has extended the custody of international gangster Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, by seven more days. In an extraordinary step prompted by serious security concerns, the NIA court judge personally visited the NIA headquarters to conduct the hearing rather than holding it in court. Officials said there was credible intelligence hinting at a threat to Anmol Bishnoi’s safety, leading to the transfer of proceedings to a secure section of the NIA office.
Following the special hearing, the court directed that Anmol will remain in NIA custody till December 5 as investigators continue interrogations in multiple ongoing cases linked to the Bishnoi crime syndicate.

Bishnoi was first sent to 11-day NIA custody by the Patiala House Court earlier this month. Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi, along with Advocate Kushdeep Gaur, outlined Anmol’s suspected role in the vast criminal network allegedly overseen by his elder brother from jail. Anmol, who had been absconding since 2022, is the nineteenth arrest in the terror-gangster syndicate case.
Anmol Bishnoi was extradited from the United States to India on November 19. After arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was handed over to the NIA. He faces cases across Rajasthan, Punjab, and Maharashtra for his alleged involvement in extortion, organised crime, and terror-linked activities. In total, 31 criminal cases have been registered against him.
Investigating agencies had earlier received inputs that Anmol, who frequently travelled between the U.S. and Canada, had been detained in Canada. He was reportedly carrying a Russian passport obtained through forged documents, according to information shared with PTI.
Anmol, considered a key conspirator, was chargesheeted by the NIA in March 2023 after evidence surfaced of his involvement in coordinating terror activities across India between 2020 and 2023. The agency stated that he worked in close coordination with internationally designated terrorist Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, providing operational support from abroad.
