Phagwara, Nov 27: Tension gripped the outskirts of Phagwara after two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at the residence of ruling AAP leader Daljit Singh Raju near Darvesh Pind village on the Phagwara–Jandiala road early Thursday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Raju, who serves as the Phagwara coordinator for AAP’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, said the attackers fired around 23 rounds at his house at approximately 1.13 am, shattering several window and door panes. He is known to be a close aide of Hoshiarpur MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal.

Phagwara Sub-Divisional Superintendent of Police Madhvi Sharma confirmed that about 23 shots were fired. She said CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and additional police personnel have been deployed at the site.

Raids are underway, and all possible angles — including intimidation and personal enmity — are being closely investigated. “We are taking full stock of the situation and will soon nab the miscreants,” the SP assured.

Raju recounted that two armed men arrived on a motorcycle, parked it at a distance, walked towards the house and opened fire before fleeing under the cover of darkness.
