Tenkasi, Nov 24: In a tragic road accident on Monday morning, six people lost their lives and over 20 others sustained injuries after two private buses collided head-on on the Tenkasi–Kadayanallur state highway.
The crash occurred around 10.50 am near the Achampatti signal under the Ilathur Police Station limits. Police said an ‘M R Gopalan’ bus travelling from Sengottai towards Kovilpatti rammed into a ‘Kayesr’ bus coming from Srivilliputhur.

Preliminary reports confirmed six fatalities, while the number of injured varied across sources. More than 20 victims were rushed to the Tenkasi Government Hospital, though some accounts suggested the toll of the injured could be closer to 30.
All available ‘108’ ambulances and several private vehicles were mobilised to assist in shifting the injured. Rescue operations continued through the afternoon as officials worked to ascertain the exact number of casualties and identify the victims.
Investigators from the Ilathur Police Station are probing the circumstances that led to the tragic collision. Further updates are awaited from hospital and police authorities.
