Over 125 Indians repatriated from Thailand by IAF

Bangkok, Nov 19: At least 125 Indian nationals were flown back to India from Thailand’s Mae Sot on Wednesday aboard a special Indian Air Force (IAF) flight. This brings the total number of Indians repatriated from scam centres in Myanmar’s Myawaddy via Thailand since March to 1,500.

The Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai coordinated with Thai authorities, including Tak Province officials, to facilitate the safe return of the nationals. These operations are part of the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to rescue citizens trapped in scam operations across South-East Asia.

The Embassy advised Indian nationals to exercise caution when considering overseas employment. “Verify the credentials of foreign employers and recruiting agents before accepting a job. Visa-free entry into Thailand is intended for tourism and short business visits, not employment,” the Embassy posted on X.

Earlier on Tuesday, 269 Indians, including 11 women, were repatriated through Mae Sot by two IAF flights. Last week, 197 individuals were similarly flown home.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Mae Sot to oversee the operations and met India’s Ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh. Charnvirakul expressed appreciation for India’s prompt efforts in repatriating citizens and assured continued cooperation from Thai authorities in supporting the safe return of Indians released from Myanmar scam centres.
