Bihar Congress cracks down on 43 leaders over anti-party activities

Patna, Nov 19: In a major post-poll shake-up, the Bihar Congress on Tuesday initiated disciplinary proceedings against 43 party leaders, including former ministers, MLAs and office-bearers, for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities during the recent assembly elections — a contest in which the party managed to secure only six seats.

According to party sources, the disciplinary committee has served show-cause notices to the leaders for deviating from official party positions and issuing statements that reportedly damaged the party’s prospects. The accused leaders have been asked to submit their replies within three days, failing which strict action — including expulsion for up to six years — will be taken.

“If their clarification is not submitted within the stipulated time (November 21), the committee will be compelled to proceed with disciplinary measures, which may include removal from the party’s primary membership for six years,” said Kapil Dev Prasad, chairman of the state disciplinary committee.

The list of those facing action includes former minister Afaq Alam, former spokesperson Anand Madhav, former MLAs Chhatrapati Yadav and Gajanand Shahi (Munna Shahi), former minister Veena Shahi, former MLC Ajay Kumar Singh, and several district-level leaders such as Banka Congress chief Kanchana Kumari and Saran district president Bachchu Kumar Biru. Former Youth Congress president Raj Kumar Rajan is also among those named.

The disciplinary committee reiterated that party unity and internal discipline remain non-negotiable, and any attempts to undermine them will be dealt with firmly.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) founder Prashant Kishor renewed his attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, declaring that he would quit politics if the newly formed NDA government fulfilled its promise of transferring Rs 2 lakh each to the bank accounts of 1.5 crore women in the state.
