Agartala, Nov 16: Tripura Police on Saturday arrested a man after seizing a factory-made pistol, a magazine, four live bullets, and various contraband items from his residence near the Srimantapur border in Sepahijala district.

The arrested has been identified as Babul Miah, 49. The operation was a joint effort by Sonamura police station and the Srimantapur Border Outpost (BOP) of the Border Security Force (BSF).

Authorities also detained Miah’s wife, Khursheda Begum, 27, for questioning in connection with the case.

A police communique stated that the team recovered 250 empty bottles of banned cough syrup, a butcher knife, 10 grams of Yaba tablets, and 100 diazepam 5 mg tablets, suspected to have originated from Bangladesh.

“One case is being registered under the relevant sections of law at Sonamura PS,” the release added.

Tripura shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, with certain stretches still unfenced due to local disputes.
