Mangalurur: St Aloysius Gonzaga School concludes Italian exchange students experience

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 5: St Aloysius Gonzaga School, successfully concluded the student exchange programme with Istituto Leone XIII, Milan, Italy, on November 1, further strengthening the spirit of global learning and friendship between the two Jesuit institutions.

The visiting team, led by Bernadette Walshe, teacher coordinator, was warmly hosted by Indian families who ensured that the guests experienced authentic Indian hospitality. The Italian students explored important landmarks of Mangaluru and neighbouring cities, visited the historic St Aloysius College Chapel, and learned about the rich Jesuit heritage of the institution. They also enjoyed traditional cuisine, visited their host families’ homes, and experienced the warmth of Indian family life.

They participated enthusiastically in the Ethnic Day celebration of class XI, admiring the colourful Indian costumes and cultural diversity. Their visit to a local temple helped them gain insights into the multi-religious aspect of our country, while a trip to a farmhouse offered a glimpse into India’s rural traditions, animal husbandry and agricultural practices.

In their address, the Italian students expressed deep appreciation for the kindness and generosity extended to them by their hosts. Principal Fr Rohan D’ Almeida SJ highlighted the Jesuit ideal of Global Citizenship, explaining that Jesuit education promotes a ‘glocal’ perspective — global awareness combined with local action for the common good.

Now in its third year, this exchange programme continues to build cultural bridges and nurture empathy, collaboration, and respect among students from both nations.
