HIV/AIDS awareness programme through Yakshagana held at MPM College, Karkala

Karkala, Nov 4: An awareness programme on HIV/AIDS through Yakshagana was organised on November 4, at Manjunatha Pai Memorial Government First Grade College, Karkala.

The event was held by Fine Arts Association, National Service Scheme (NSS) Units and Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of the college in collaboration with the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, district administration and zilla panchayat Udupi.

The Shambhu Lingeshwara Yaksha Natya Mela, Siddapura, Uttara Kannada district, performed a Yakshagana to create awareness among students about HIV/AIDS. Yakshagana was performed to raise awareness. Prashanth Hegde, Manjunatha Babu Hegde, Mahabaleshwara M, Venkataramana, and Ramachandra participated.

Kiran Babu, NCD counsellor and Bindya Shetty, ICTC counsellor delivered a lecture on communicable diseases, adolescent problems and HIV/AIDS.

The programme was presided over by the college principal, Dr Suresh Rai K. It was organised by Soumya H K convener of the Fine Arts Association and Renuka H G, NSS programme officer. Mohini, Red Ribbon Club officer, associate professors Jayalakshmi, Louis Manoj, Sudarshan and assistant professors Avinash, Subramanya K C, Chandrakanth Shenoy and Prasanna Kumar and PED Jayabharathi were also present.

Students from first and second MCom, third BBA, BCA and BCOM first BA participated in the programme.
