College student raped near Coimbatore Airport, hunt on for three accused

Coimbatore, Nov 3: In a horrifying incident, a 20-year-old college student from a private institution in Coimbatore was allegedly gang-raped by three men in a deserted area near the Coimbatore International Airport late on Sunday night, November 2.

According to police sources, the survivor, a first-year postgraduate student, was with her boyfriend inside a parked car near Brindhavan Nagar–SIHS Colony Road around 11 p.m., when three men approached them. The assailants smashed the car’s window with a stone, forced the door open, and attacked the man before dragging the young woman to a nearby isolated area, where they sexually assaulted her.

The incident came to light after the victim’s boyfriend alerted the police. Search operations were immediately launched, and the woman was found several hours later in a deserted location. She was shifted to a private hospital, while her boyfriend was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Senior police officials, including the city’s top brass, inspected the crime scene in the early hours of Monday (November 3). Authorities have formed seven special teams to trace and arrest the accused.

The Coimbatore City Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and further investigation is underway.
