Chennai, Nov 3: In yet another incident of mid-sea arrest, 35 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday, November 3, 2025, for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

According to official sources, the arrested fishermen were aboard three mechanised boats — two carrying 10 persons each and one with 11 persons. Of the total, 31 fishermen hailed from Nagapattinam district, while four were from Ramanathapuram.

Reports indicate that the Sri Lankan authorities seized the boats and fishing gear, and the detained fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai port. They are expected to be produced before a local court upon arrival.

The incident has once again raised concerns among the fishing community in coastal Tamil Nadu, which continues to demand a lasting solution to the recurring arrests and the ongoing maritime boundary dispute with Sri Lanka.
