Mumbai, Oct 27: Vidya Balan, celebrated for her powerhouse performances in Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, is set to make a significant entry into Tamil cinema with the upcoming film Jailer 2. She will share the screen with superstar Rajinikanth, marking her first substantial role in a Tamil project, unlike her brief cameo in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019).

In the film, Vidya plays the eldest daughter of Mithun Chakraborty, who stars as the main antagonist. The story brings together two legendary actors, Rajinikanth and Mithun, creating an eagerly anticipated reunion for fans. Currently, the film is being shot in Chennai, with the team planning to move to Goa for the remaining two months of production starting late October. Post-production is expected to begin by January.

Fans recently got a glimpse of the shoot through behind-the-scenes clips shared on social media, featuring action sequences, candid moments among the cast, and fun on set. A festive tweet wishing everyone a happy Deepavali also included exclusive BTS footage from the film.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer. Rajinikanth reprises his role, with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa returning, while S. J. Suryah joins the cast in a new role. Special appearances include Shiva Rajkumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and Mithun Chakraborty, with Shiva reprising his previous role. The film is slated for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.

For fans, the reunion of Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty is a major highlight, recalling their collaborations in the Hindi film Bhrastachar and Bengali movie Bhagya Devta. Rajinikanth’s last film appearance was in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie.

Jailer 2 promises high-octane action, comedy, and star-studded performances, making it one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
