St Aloysius Pre-University College observes Mental Health Week with engaging activities

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 23: The Department of Counselling at St Aloysius Pre-University College successfully organised the Mental Health Week. The week-long initiative focused on promoting mental well-being, reducing stigma, and creating a supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

This year’s theme, “Access to Service: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” highlighted the often overlooked emotional and psychological impact of emergencies, emphasizing the need for accessible mental health support during such critical times.

The event featured a diverse range of activities, including a special session for staff titled Unwind to Rewind: A Self-Care Hour for Teachers, conducted by mental health expert Dr Bhavana Karkera, who guided participants through stress management and emotional resilience techniques. Students benefited from peer support circles and open forums, offering safe spaces for sharing and solidarity.

Awareness drives were conducted across the campus through visually impactful posters and digital campaigns, aiming to educate the community on mental health issues and resources.

To foster creativity and deeper engagement, the college hosted a series of competitions. Students participated enthusiastically in the Celestial Mandala Art and Brain Booster Obstacle Challenge, while staff showcased their talents through pebble painting, creating themed noticeboards titled Mental Health and Our Subject, and contributing to a collaborative Wall of Gratitude.

In addition, specially designed e-posters were shared separately with students and staff, focusing on the Seven Dimensions of Wellness: Physical, Emotional, Social, Intellectual, Environmental, Occupational, and Spiritual. These posters served as daily reminders to nurture all aspects of personal well-being.

The Mental Health Week was widely appreciated for its inclusive approach and impactful messaging. The Department of Counselling expressed commitment to continuing efforts to promote mental wellness and provide ongoing support to the college community.

“There is no health without mental health. It is time we listen, support, and act.”
