Washington, Oct 21: Marking the vibrant festival of lights, US President Donald Trump extended heartfelt Diwali greetings on October 21, calling the occasion “a timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness.” In an official presidential message, Trump highlighted Diwali’s significance for millions of Americans, noting it as a time to gather with loved ones, celebrate community, and reflect on the enduring triumph of good over evil. “May this observance bring abiding serenity, prosperity, hope, and peace,” the message read.

The President’s message was part of a wider wave of Diwali wishes from across the American political spectrum. Members of both the Democratic and Republican parties took to social media and public events to celebrate the festival, which holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists worldwide.

Federal Bureau of Investigation director Kash Patel, who made history earlier this year as the first Indian-American to lead the FBI, also extended Diwali wishes. Referring to the festival as a global celebration of good triumphing over evil, Patel emphasized its universal message. Notably, he had taken his oath of office on the Bhagavad Gita, underscoring his cultural roots and the growing representation of Indian-Americans in U.S. leadership.

Republican presidential hopeful and Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy shared a simple yet symbolic message: “Happy Diwali! May the light prevail over darkness.” Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted a Diwali celebration at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin. The event, attended by India’s Consul General in Houston, DC Manjunath, was praised for strengthening Indo-American ties and honoring the community’s traditions.

The Consulate General of India in Houston acknowledged Abbott’s continued support of Diwali festivities, describing the event as one that spreads the spirit of “light, unity, and togetherness.”

Prominent lawmakers also joined in the celebrations. Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna and Republican Congressman Pete Sessions issued Diwali greetings, while bipartisan figures including Republican Brian Fitzpatrick and Democrat Suzan DelBene took part in local community gatherings, reflecting the festival’s growing resonance in American public life.

From the White House to state mansions and community halls, Diwali 2025 has once again underscored the festival’s deepening roots in American culture and its ability to unite people across political, cultural, and religious lines.
