Holy Family Church, Omzoor observes Mission Sunday

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 20: Mission Sunday was observed with great devotion and enthusiasm at Holy Family Church, Omzoor, on Sunday, October 19. Following the solemn Holy Eucharistic celebration, the parish community came together for a fun-filled fundraising event — ‘Omzoor Fiesta 2025’ — held in the church hall.

The event was officially inaugurated by the parish priest, Fr William Menezes, through a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was joined by resident priest Fr Victor D’Souza, Parish Council vice president Arthur D’Souza, secretary Dafney Lewis, AYOG coordinator Elroy Saldanha, superior of St charles Boromeo convent Sr Luciana along with Sr Pramila and the Omzoor Fiesta Core Committee members. The church premises came alive with joy, fellowship, and a shared spirit of charity as parishioners participated wholeheartedly in this noble cause.

During the Holy Mass, parishioners contributed a variety of items including fresh vegetables, fruits, coconuts, honey, roosters, Goan sausages, rice mudo, and even a fish aquarium all of which were auctioned later. The lively auction was conducted by Elroy Saldanha, adding excitement to the proceedings. A special highlight of the day was the mega auction of a goat, which drew enthusiastic participation from the crowd.

The event reflected strong teamwork, with active involvement from all parish associations including Catholic Sabha, Sthree Sanghatan, ICYM, YCS, Altar Servers Association, along with the wards of the parish led by ward gurkars and the Parish Pastoral Council members. Under the leadership of Steevan D’Souza, the main core team and volunteers organized a range of games, food stalls, and activities, making the event both entertaining and purposeful.

Stalls offering mouthwatering delicacies such as pork bafat, pork sorpotel, pork chilly, chicken biryani, chicken cutlets, momos, nuggets, idlis, panipuri, ice creams, corn chat, potato twister and lime soda were a major attraction, delighting visitors throughout the day.

Steeven D’Souza compered the event, keeping the crowd engaged and the festivities lively.

The spirit of charity and mission resonated throughout the celebration. The Omzoor Fiesta 2025 not only fostered unity among parishioners but also successfully raised funds in support of missionary activities — a true testament to the community’s faith, generosity, and commitment to serving a greater cause.
