Udupi: Manipal KMC hosts global webinar on Thrombophilia awareness

Udupi, Oct 16: In observance of World Thrombosis Day 2025, the Manipal Centre for Benign Hematological Disorders, under the Department of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, organized an insightful and academically enriching webinar on the theme ‘An Update on Thrombophilia.’

The event brought together over 100 participants, including national and international delegates reflecting a strong interest in the evolving field of thrombosis and haemostasis.

Three eminent speakers from across the globe delivered keynote lectures during the session:

Dr Sukesh C Nair, senior professor and in-charge of Laboratory Haematology, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Immunohaematology, Christian Medical College, Vellore, spoke on Diagnostic Assays and Pre-analytical Variables of Thrombophilia Testing

Prof Beverley Hunt, OBE, consultant in Thrombosis & Haemostasis at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, UK, shared An Approach to Thrombophilia and Treatment Guidelines

Dr Chepsy Philip, professor of Clinical Hematology at Believers Church Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla, Kerala, presented Newer Anticoagulants and its Monitoring

The webinar commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Ganesh Mohan, coordinator of the Manipal Centre for Benign Haematological Disorders and professor & head, Department of IHBT, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Dr Mohan emphasized the importance of increased awareness and timely diagnosis in improving patient outcomes in thrombosis-related disorders. The session concluded with closing remarks by Dr Shamee Shastry, professor, Department of IHBT, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, who thanked the speakers and participants for their enthusiastic involvement and highlighted the relevance of collaborative knowledge-sharing in advancing thrombosis care.

The webinar was held in line with the World Thrombosis Day 2025 global theme: ‘From Head to Toe, Take Control: Prevent Thrombosis, Protect Your Health.’

This educational initiative reflects the centre’s continued commitment to promoting awareness and advancing research in benign hematological conditions.
