Five-year-old boy run over by e-rickshaw in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar

New Delhi, Oct 14: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy lost his life after being run over by an e-rickshaw that was accidentally started by another child in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area, police said on Monday.

According to officials, the mishap took place on Sunday when a water delivery e-rickshaw, parked in a narrow lane, suddenly moved forward after another child playing nearby accidentally started it.

“The vehicle rolled ahead and the five-year-old, who was playing nearby, came under it, suffering fatal injuries,” said a police officer. The child was trapped beneath the vehicle and died on the spot.

Teams from the Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the location for inspection. The deceased was identified as a local resident of Sangam Vihar. Police said his father was in Bihar for work, while his uncle was present at the scene when the accident occurred.

A local inquiry was conducted, and statements from eyewitnesses were recorded. The body was sent to AIIMS for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case at the Sangam Vihar police station and launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events.
