Mangaluru, Oct 12: A major fire erupted at a scrap shop near Someshwara Uchila Junction along National Highway 66 in Ullal on Sunday, October 12, in the afternoon, resulting in significant damage estimated to run into lacs of rupees.

Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the scene, severely disrupting vehicular movement on the busy highway for nearly two hours. The fire, which initially broke out at the scrap facility, quickly spread to an adjacent residential house, sparking panic among local residents.

Fire and emergency services rushed to the location upon receiving the alert but encountered considerable difficulty in extinguishing the flames due to the large volume of scrap material stored at the site. It reportedly took them more than thirty minutes to bring the blaze under partial control.

Police personnel from Ullal and the Dakshina Kannada traffic division arrived promptly and managed traffic flow on the highway while urging onlookers to vacate the area for safety.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
