Netflix brings gaming to TV screens, expands entertainment experience beyond streaming

Los Angeles, Oct 10: In a major move to expand its entertainment portfolio, Netflix has announced that users can now play video games directly on their TVs — a first for the streaming giant.

Speaking at the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters revealed that select titles, including Boggle Party, Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, and Lego Party, are now available for TV play.

Until now, Netflix’s gaming feature was limited to mobile devices. With this update, subscribers can enjoy games on the big screen using their smartphones as controllers — no gaming console required. The initiative marks Netflix’s latest step toward enhancing user engagement by blending interactive entertainment with its streaming ecosystem.

According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix’s renewed gaming push is being spearheaded by CEO Greg Peters and Alain Tascan, head of the gaming division. After initial challenges with free mobile games, the company is now focusing on four key areas — kids’ games, party games, blockbuster titles like Grand Theft Auto, and games inspired by Netflix originals such as Stranger Things.

Tascan, who previously worked with Epic Games, aims to position Netflix as a strong player in the casual gaming space by leveraging its global subscriber base and dominance in living-room entertainment.

How to Play Netflix Games on TV

Starting this week, Netflix subscribers can enjoy a variety of games directly through their TVs.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Open the Netflix app on your smart TV.

2. Navigate to the new “Games” tab.

3. Select a game from the available titles.

4. Connect your smartphone to use as a controller.

5. Start playing — no extra hardware needed.

Launch Lineup:

• Boggle Party

• LEGO Party

• Party Crashers

• Pictionary: Game Night

• Tetris Time Warp

The feature aims to make gaming more social and accessible, offering group-friendly titles designed for family gatherings, casual fun, or breaks between binge-watching sessions.
