Mangaluru, Oct 6: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district has secured the third position in Karnataka for panchayat property tax collection, following Chikkaballapur, which topped the state for the first time, and Bengaluru Rural, which ranked second, according to officials.
In a historic achievement, Chikkaballapur district ranked first in grama panchayat property tax collection for the first time. As of the end of September, the district achieved 54.82% of its target, placing it in the top position. Bengaluru Rural followed with 54%, while Dakshina Kannada stood third with 51.45% collection.

The taxes collected by grama panchayats are being utilized for local development and administrative expenses, contributing to rural development, panchayat empowerment, self-reliance, and improved public services.
Citizens have been provided with multiple payment options to clear pending taxes—either directly at the grama panchayat offices or online through https://bsk.karnataka.gov.in/, UPI, Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm. Tax collection in the district is being monitored under the leadership of the zilla panchayat chief executive officer.
A special tax collection drive has been launched at the grama panchayat level, with weekly video-conference review meetings held at the district level to monitor progress.
In panchayats where bill collector posts are vacant, members of women’s self-help groups have been engaged in tax collection efforts. Alongside tax payments, citizens can also verify property details and apply for e-Swathu property registration through the same platform.
