Abhishek, Aishwarya sue YouTube Over AI deepfake videos

New Delhi, Oct 4: Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have filed lawsuits against YouTube and Google, seeking nearly $450,000 (around ?4 crore) in damages and a permanent injunction to stop AI-generated deepfake videos featuring them.

According to Reuters, the lawsuits cite hundreds of links and screenshots of alleged sexually explicit or fictitious AI content uploaded on YouTube. The actors argue that YouTube’s content policies and third-party training practices risk proliferating misleading material online.

The filings claim that AI platforms trained on such content could replicate and amplify false portrayals, infringing on their intellectual property rights. “Such content being used to train AI models has the potential to multiply instances of infringing material,” the filings state.

The Delhi High Court last month asked Google’s lawyers to submit written responses ahead of the next hearing on January 15.

On the professional front, Aishwarya Rai was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023), while Abhishek Bachchan recently featured in Madhumita’s Kaalidhar Laapata and will next appear in Siddharth Anand’s King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan.
