Bengaluru, Oct 1: The Karnataka government’s flagship women empowerment initiative, the Shakti Scheme, has earned recognition in the International Book of Records and the World Record of Excellence Awards. Riding on the milestone of over 500 crore free journeys by women, the scheme has now been added to another world record. Minister Ramalinga Reddy extended his gratitude to officials, staff, and workers from the four transport corporations, as well as women commuters, for their participation.

According to a KSRTC media release, the Shakti Scheme, launched on June 11, 2023, by the Siddaramaiah-led government, provides free travel for women across four state-run transport corporations – KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC. Since its inception, women have completed over 500 crore journeys under the scheme, highlighting its impact on women’s mobility and empowerment.

Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the initiative has empowered women economically, socially, and professionally. Its implementation in other states reflects the scheme’s success, and achieving another world record is a matter of pride. He expressed appreciation to the transport officials, staff, union leaders, and women travelers for their contributions.

The Shakti Scheme has already been listed in the Golden Book of World Records. Recently, minister Ramalinga Reddy shared the official certificate with chief minister Siddaramaiah, celebrating the recognition. The scheme’s milestone of over 500 crore journeys by women has been recorded as a world record in the Golden Book of World Records, marking a remarkable achievement in promoting women’s mobility.
