Udupi, Sep 30: As part of the 2025–26 initiative of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, a comprehensive survey of the social and educational status of households across Udupi district is currently underway.

Of the total 3.55 lakh households with electricity connections, homes with RR numbers registered by MESCOM have already been affixed with geo-tag stickers.

In total, 70,971 houses have been surveyed across the district so far. This includes 97,918 families, 844 blocks, and 7,497 houses in Udupi taluk; 65,791 families, 621 blocks, and 15,341 houses in Kundapura taluk; 57,740 families, 531 blocks, and 12,612 houses in Karkala taluk; 43,834 families, 403 blocks, and 6,519 houses in Kaup taluk; 12,939 families, 121 blocks, and 4,703 houses in Hebri taluk; 51,139 families, 465 blocks, and 15,513 houses in Brahmavar taluk; and 26,410 families, 246 blocks, and 8,786 houses in Byndoor taluk.

For this exercise, a total of 3,158 enumerators have been appointed.

The house-to-house social and educational survey for 2025 is being conducted between September 22 and October 7, to gather detailed information on the socio-educational conditions of citizens.

Enumerators visiting households are required to collect key identifiers such as the ration card, Aadhaar number, and UDID number (if there are specially-abled members in the family). Each family must ensure that their Aadhaar cards are linked with their mobile numbers.

During the survey, an OTP is generated for the e-KYC process, sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. If the concerned member is not at home during the visit, the OTP may be shared using the phone number of another family member who is present.

Ahead of the survey, awareness was created among citizens through the distribution of sample forms by staff who visited homes. Mallesha, assigned to survey duties in Yedamoge Grama Panchayat, completed his allocated work in just three days. He was congratulated by deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K for his efficient performance.
