Indian-origin doctor arrested in California for sexual assault during consultation

California, Sep 27: Dr. Sanjay Agarwal, a 68-year-old Indian-origin pulmonologist based in San Jose, California, has been arrested on charges of sexual battery following allegations of inappropriate conduct toward a female patient during a consultation.

According to a statement released by the Milpitas Police Department, the incident was reported on September 16, 2025. The complaint alleged that Dr. Agarwal, who practices at a sleep center in Milpitas and is affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, had inappropriately touched a female patient during a medical consultation.

Following an investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau, detectives concluded that there was sufficient evidence to warrant criminal charges. On September 24, Dr. Agarwal was arrested at his office and later booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of sexual battery.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to this case or who believes they may have been a victim to come forward.
