Mangaluru, Sep 27: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) has announced the recipients of the prestigious Kalakar Puraskar Award 2025, sponsored by Michael D’Souza, Dubai, under his Vision Konkani initiative. The honours will be presented during the KNS’s 82nd annual day celebration, scheduled for September 28 at 5 pm at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru.
Veteran theatre artistes Molly Fernandes, Victor Correa and Vincent Correa have been selected for the Kalakar Puraskar in recognition of their outstanding service to Konkani theatre. All three stalwarts of the Konkani theatre world known for their decades-long contribution to the stage and cultural life of the region. Each award includes a shawl of honour, fruits and flowers, a citation, memento, and a cash prize of Rs 25,000, sponsored by Michael D’Souza, Dubai, as part of his continued efforts to promote and preserve Konkani culture.


As part of the celebration, the acclaimed Konkani drama Patim Polenaka, written by the late MicMax, will be performed by KNS members. The play is directed by Jerome Moras and guided by veteran artiste Dolla Mangaluru.
KNS president Fr Rocky D'Cunha OFM Cap, vice president Floyd D'Mello Cascia, general secretary Pamela Santos, assistant secretary Jerome Moras, treasurer Ivan D'Silva, and the managing committee have extended a warm invitation to all theatre lovers and well-wishers to attend the grand celebration.
About the awardees:
Molly Fernandes
Born in 1940 in Puttur, Molly Fernandes showed a passion for cultural activities from a young age. After moving to Mangaluru following her marriage, she became more actively involved in the local arts scene. As a dedicated choir member at Cascia Church, she connected with prominent Konkani artists and began acting in plays by Cha Fra D’Costa, Dolphy Cascia, and others. Her performances in dramas such as Kuvalyachi Val, Tommato, and Ratichi Aat Voram earned her widespread recognition. She also worked under the direction of Dolla Mangaluru and served as an active member of KNS for many years.
Victor Correa
Born in 1954 in Derebail, Victor Correa emerged as a vibrant and energetic theatre artiste from a young age. He held key leadership roles in organisations like ICYM, Catholic Sabha, and SVP, gaining wide respect in the Konkani community. He served as editor of the parish magazine Derebailche Phul for 25 years. A member of KNS since 1990, Victor has acted in numerous Konkani dramas including Satapatlem Khat, Director Jocky, Kallok, Mother Theresa, Udenthicho Chovto Rai, Somiyacho Pashanv, Mai Maka Adainaka, and Natalanchi Sannam, winning the hearts of audiences with his compelling performances.
Vincent Correa
Born in 1953 in Bendur, Vincent Correa has dedicated decades to the world of Konkani theatre. Introduced to the stage by Austine D’Souza Prabhu, he became a regular face in productions by top directors in Bendur and neighbouring areas. A committed member of KNS, he also contributed extensively behind the scenes as a backstage artist. His noted performances include roles in Somiyacho Pashanv, Nimani Bara Voram, Kristavank Diya Shinvank, KD Bona BA, and Vodlimaink Kaza.
