Priyanka slams BJP-JDU in Motihari, alleges vote-buying ahead of Bihar polls

Motihari, Sep 26: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday launched a blistering attack on the BJP and its ally JDU during her first solo rally in Bihar’s Motihari, accusing the ruling alliance of trying to “buy votes” ahead of the upcoming legislative elections.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of disbursing Rs 7,500 crore to 75 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Thursday, Priyanka questioned the timing of the move. “For years, they have been in power. Why did they not think of these doles earlier?” she asked, alleging that the NDA was luring voters with last-minute benefits.

Taking on the BJP for “dividing society,” she accused the party of stirring debates on caste, religion, and infiltration to manipulate elections. “Do you know who has been in power in Bihar for the last 20 years?” she asked the gathering. When the crowd shouted back, “Those who steal votes,” Priyanka quipped, “You have made things so easy for me.”

Targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, she highlighted the collapse of 27 bridges in Bihar over the past three years. “So much for the claims of being a Vikas Purush (man of development),” she remarked. Priyanka also alleged that over 10,000 acres of land in Bhagalpur had been leased to a business group at a throwaway price and expressed concern over US tariffs that could hurt exports of makhana (fox nuts), a key crop in north Bihar.

Calling her brother Rahul Gandhi a “real patriot,” Priyanka praised his 4,000-km Bharat Jodo Yatra undertaken two years ago to “listen to common people and understand their problems,” contrasting it with what she termed the BJP’s vote-centric politics.
