Kasargod, Sep 26: A police constable died in a tragic accident early on Friday morning while travelling to trace an accused in a drug-related case. The incident took place at Chengala Fourth Mile, on the outskirts of Kasargod city.
The deceased has been identified as police constable K K Sajeesh (40), a member of a special team led by Bekal DySP. The accident occurred around 2:45 am when the car in which Sajeesh was travelling collided with a tipper lorry. Another policeman in the vehicle, Subhash Chandra, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.

According to police reports, as the car was coming onto the service road through an underpass at Chengala Fourth Mile, a tipper lorry coming from Cherkala towards Kasargod struck it. Both injured officers were immediately taken to Chengala Hospital, but Sajeesh succumbed to his injuries.
On Thursday evening around 4 pm, Melparamba police had seized 3.28 grams of MDMA and 10.65 grams of ganja being transported in the car. In connection with this case, Ahammed Kabir of Chattanchal had been arrested, while the second accused, dentist Dr Muhammad Suneer of Kannur, was absconding. Based on reliable information that Suneer was in the Kasargod area, police were travelling in the car to trace him when the accident took place.
A case has been registered against the tipper lorry driver.
Following a post-mortem at Kasargod General Hospital, Sajeesh’s body will be kept at the district police superintendent’s office for final respects. In the evening, it will be taken to his native place, Mayichchi in Cheruvathur, for the last rites.
