Patna, Sep 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on September 26 at 11 a.m. via video conferencing, government officials announced on Thursday. Under this flagship scheme, Rs 10,000 will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of 75 lac women across Bihar, marking a total disbursement of Rs 7,500 crore in the initial phase.
The scheme, originally introduced by chief minister Nitish Kumar, aims to foster self-reliance (‘Aatmanirbhar’) among women by encouraging self-employment and creating livelihood opportunities. It provides financial support to one woman per family, allowing her to start an income-generating venture of her choice.

Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000, followed by a progress assessment after six months. Depending on the results, further financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lac may be provided. Women will also receive training from community resource persons linked to self-help groups to develop skills and manage their businesses effectively.
To support marketing efforts, local haat-bazaars in rural areas will be upgraded, enabling women entrepreneurs to sell their products directly to consumers.
This initiative is being viewed as a significant step to empower women voters and boost rural economies ahead of the fiercely contested Bihar Assembly elections, where the ruling NDA, led by Nitish Kumar, faces strong opposition from the Grand Alliance (INDIA bloc).
The scheme was approved by the Bihar Cabinet on August 29, 2025, with chief minister Nitish Kumar chairing the meeting at the chief minister’s secretariat, officially greenlighting the proposal.
With this, one woman from each family in Bihar will gain access to crucial financial assistance to kickstart her journey towards economic independence.
