Udupi, Sep 24: A complaint has been registered at Karkala police station against a youth associated with the BJP IT Cell for allegedly defaming Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah by circulating derogatory messages in connection with Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple.
The accused, identified as Prakhyath B J, a resident of Eedu, Karkala, is alleged to have spread false messages and derogatory remarks about CM Siddaramaiah on social media platforms, claiming that state government price hikes had even affected the services of the temple, thereby disturbing public harmony.

Prakhyath had earlier been accused of posting derogatory remarks against state and national Congress leaders on social media. On a previous occasion, he had given a written undertaking to the police promising not to make such posts in the future and was let off with a warning. Despite this, he continued to create and circulate false allegations against the chief minister, misleading the public through social media posts.
Karkala Congress general secretary Manjunath Jogi, who filed the complaint, has urged the police to question the accused and initiate strict legal action.
