Annual camp of St Mary’s PU College Shirva NSS unit inaugurated at Moodubelle

Udupi, Sep 23: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Annual Camp was inaugurated at St Lawrence Kannada Medium High School on Saturday, September 20.

The inaugural programme was presided over by Dr Leslie D’Souza, parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva and correspondent of St Mary’s Educational Institutions.

Suresh Shetty Gurme, MLA from Kaup Constituency was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the annual NSS camp by lighting the lamp and wished well to the campers.

Fr Cyril Lobo, rector of Divya Dhaama Minor Seminary, Moodubelle delivered a benedictory message and wished well for the annual NSS camp.

Divya Acharya, president of the Belle gram panchayat in her message called upon the NSS volunteers and the youth to free themselves from the addiction of various types.

Dr Herald Ivan Monis, principal of St Mary’s Degree College appreciated the good work of the NSS unit of St Mary’s PU College and wished them well for the camp.

Vice president of Shirva Parish Pastoral Council, Melwyn Aranha made an appeal to the NSS volunteers to imbibe good qualities through the camp and practice them in their lives.

CA Pritish D’Sa, vice president of Moodubelle Parish pastoral Council, in his speech, said that there is a good bond between Shirva and Moodubelle and assured all support for the camp from Moodubelle.

Lion Devadas Hebbar, the former president of Udupi taluk panchayat gave a brief background of NSS and his own experience as NSS volunteer and wished well for the camp.

Leena Machado, convener of 21 Commissions of Shirva Pastoral Council was present on the stage.

Professor Maria Jacinta Furtado, NSS programme officer in her introductory remarks highlighted the aims and objectives of the NSS annual camp.

The principal of St Mary’s PU College, Professor Jayashanker K welcomed the gathering. Ankita Rao and NSS student leader Sinchit compered the programme. Co-program officer professor Royston Quadros proposed a vote of thanks.

Other co-program officers Professor Shalini Lobo, Glanish Mendonca, Keshava P, Deepika Mendonca, Maxim D’Souza and the teaching and non-teaching staff from St Mary’s PU College Shirva, St Lawrence High School, Moodubelle, parents of NSS volunteers and villagers from Moodubelle were present on the occasion.
