Indore, Sep 23: A tragic incident unfolded in Indore’s Ranipura area on Monday night when a three-storey house collapsed following heavy rains, killing two people and injuring 12 others, officials said.

District Collector Shivam Verma stated that 14 members of a family were trapped under the debris. Twelve of them are undergoing treatment at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Government Hospital (MYH), while the deceased have been identified as Alifa (20) and Faheem.

Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, confirmed that Alifa, who was rescued from the debris, was declared dead at the hospital. The five-hour rescue operation concluded on Monday night, the district collector added.
“The front portion of the building had recently been rebuilt, but the back portion was old. We will investigate the condition of the building’s foundation,” Verma said.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava noted that a part of the collapsed structure had fallen on a neighbouring building. Preliminary reports suggest that the house was around eight to ten years old.
