Noida, Sep 22: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 36-year-old man brutally stabbed his wife to death in front of their two young children in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Sonu Sharma, suspected his 28-year-old wife Chanchal Sharma, who worked at a pizza outlet, of having an affair with a colleague. Out of work for nearly two months, Sonu had frequent quarrels with his wife and had allegedly pressured her to quit her job. Chanchal, however, refused, saying she needed to support the family.

On Sunday morning, a heated argument turned fatal when Sonu allegedly covered her face with a cloth and attacked her with a knife. Their children — a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son — woke up to their mother’s screams and tried to save her, but the accused pushed them aside before carrying out the crime.

In a chilling twist, Sonu then dialed the police control room himself, admitting that he had murdered his wife, and fled from the scene. He was later traced and arrested.

Police confirmed that the investigation is underway, and the children are currently under the care of relatives. The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves through the locality.
