Apple’s first foldable iPhone likely in 2026, could feature ultra-thin titanium design

Cupertino, Sep 22: Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its first foldable iPhone as early as fall 2026, and early reports suggest it may come with a strikingly slim and premium design.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, users should “imagine two titanium iPhone Airs side-by-side” to get a sense of what the foldable device could look like. He described the upcoming model as “super thin” and a “design achievement” for Apple.

However, the futuristic design will also carry a hefty price tag. Gurman hinted that the foldable iPhone may start at around $2,000 (approximately Rs 1.76 lakh), making it one of the most expensive Apple devices to date.

Reports indicate that when unfolded, the device could measure as little as 4.5 mm in thickness, thinner than most current foldables, though still bulkier than a single iPhone Air. The use of titanium — already introduced in the iPhone Air lineup — is expected to enhance both durability and lightness.

Repairability could be another standout feature. The iPhone Air earned a repairability score of seven from iFixit, much higher than competing foldables such as the Pixel Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7, which scored just three. If Apple maintains a similar standard, the foldable iPhone could balance innovation with long-term usability.

While speculation had suggested India might play a role in assembly, Bloomberg noted that Apple will continue manufacturing the foldable model at least partly through its primary supplier, Foxconn, in China.

The foldable iPhone, if launched as expected in 2026, is poised to become one of Apple’s most premium and anticipated devices, combining sleek design, advanced materials, and potentially greater durability than rivals in the foldable smartphone market.
