Perth, Sep 22: The Perth Konkans community gathered in large numbers at St Jerome Catholic Church, Lake Coogee, to celebrate Monthi Fest 2025, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a traditional harvest festival of Konkani Catholics.
More than 250 faithful attended the solemn Konkani Mass, celebrated by Fr Vijay D’Souza along with guest priest Fr Basil Vas from the diocese of Mangalore. In preparation for this important feast, the community also participated in nine days of Novenas, organised by Karaval Konkans Australia, leading up to the day of devotion and thanksgiving.

The celebration included the traditional veneration of Mother Mary, with children and families showering flowers and offering prayers. A highlight of the occasion was the blessing of the first harvest of new grain rice, symbolising abundance, life, and gratitude.
Following the Mass, attendees gathered in the church hall for a traditional vegetarian meal, featuring homemade delicacies such as the much-loved Vorn. The afternoon concluded with vibrant cultural performances, bringing together music, dance, and community spirit.
Monthi Fest 2025 in Perth was not only a religious occasion but also a celebration of faith, unity, and cultural pride, allowing the Konkani Catholic community to honour their heritage while strengthening bonds across generations.
