Wisconsin, Sep 21: A 45-year-old worker at Palermo’s Pizza in West Milwaukee was fatally crushed by a robotic machine in the factory’s production area early Wednesday morning. Robert Cherone, a resident of Elkhorn and bakery manager at the facility, was pronounced dead at the scene after being trapped while working with automated dough-stretching equipment.
First responders rushed to assist, but Cherone could not be saved. West Milwaukee police and OSHA have launched investigations to determine the circumstances behind the accident.
Palermo’s spokesperson Rebecca Schimke expressed condolences, saying, “We are cooperating with government officials, supporting the employee’s family, and offering counselling to our team during this difficult time.”
Cherone, known for his dedication in food production, had extensive experience in the industry. The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO highlighted the incident as a reminder of the importance of workplace safety, urging collaboration between workers, employers, and government agencies.
This tragedy comes shortly after a similar fatal incident in Missouri, where a factory worker died after getting trapped in an industrial oven.
