New Delhi, Sep 20: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday confirmed that it is in contact with US authorities and the family of Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old software engineer from Mahabubnagar, Telangana, who was allegedly shot dead by police in California earlier this month.

“There has been an incident in California. We are in touch with the family. We also understand that an investigation is underway by local authorities,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at the weekly briefing, adding that the local police have already released preliminary details and a video statement on the circumstances.

Nizamuddin, who had gone to the US in 2016 for higher studies, worked with Google through EPAM Systems. In LinkedIn posts, he alleged racial harassment, wage fraud, and wrongful termination, and claimed attempts were made to poison his food. His family said he moved to California after a promotion but faced escalating intimidation that ended in eviction.

The MEA reiterated its commitment to assist the bereaved family and is closely following the ongoing US investigation.
