Mehsana, Sep 20: A 30-year-old woman in Gerita village, Vijapur taluka, suffered severe burn injuries after her sister-in-law and three others allegedly forced her to dip her hands in a pot of boiling oil to prove her fidelity, police said. The incident occurred on September 16, and a video of the ordeal went viral on social media three days later.

Vijapur police registered a First Information Report against the accused—Jamuna Thakor, her husband Manubhai Thakor, and two others—based on the woman’s complaint, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dineshsinh Chauhan. The woman is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, while the accused remain at large.

Chauhan said, “The victim’s sister-in-law suspected she was not loyal to her husband. Jamuna, along with her husband and two men, decided to make her undergo an ordeal, claiming she would not get burned if she were faithful.” Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused.
