Chennai, Sep 19: After completing two weeks in theatres, Sivakarthikeyan’s action-thriller ‘Madharaasi’ is now gearing up for its digital premiere. As per industry reports, the AR Murugadoss directorial will be available on Prime Video from October 3, 2025.

The film, which opened to high expectations, has received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, with box office performance dipping after the first week.

Storyline with a Psychological Twist

‘Madharaasi’ explores the life of a man battling Fregoli delusion, a rare psychological disorder, who is roped in by the NIA for a risky covert operation. The plot unfolds against the backdrop of gun violence and its consequences.

The movie features Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, supported by Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Shabeer Kallarakal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth. While Vidyut’s action scenes and Anirudh Ravichander’s intense background score have been appreciated, the storyline has drawn criticism for its execution.

Box Office Performance

According to trade website Sacnilk, the film opened strongly, collecting Rs 49 crore in its first week. However, momentum slowed in the second week, with total India net earnings at Rs 60.28 crore. On September 18, it recorded only 13.05% occupancy in Tamil Nadu, reflecting its declining theatrical run.

Critical Response

ETimes rated the movie 3.1 out of 5 stars, noting: “Editor Sreekar Prasad keeps the pace tight, though some action scenes feel overly edited. Stunt choreography by Kevin Kumar packs energy but lacks consistency. Even Anirudh, known for his powerful scores, has delivered a functional soundtrack this time.”

With its theatrical momentum slowing, the film’s upcoming OTT release is expected to attract wider audiences.
