New Delhi, Sep 18: A man was killed early Thursday morning in Central Delhi after being allegedly hit by a Police Control Room (PCR) van driven by two police officers under the influence of alcohol. The deceased, Gangaram Tiwari, was the owner of a local tea stall.

According to the victim’s son, the incident occurred near Ramakrishna Ashram Metro Station around 5 a.m. “There were two people in the PCR van and a woman. They were highly intoxicated. The vehicle climbed the roadside ramp and ran over my father,” he said. He also alleged that empty liquor bottles were found in the van and the officers smelled of alcohol.

Delhi Police have suspended the two officers involved — Ravindra (Assistant Sub-Inspector) and Arun (constable) — and a First Information Report (FIR) is being filed. Medical examinations of both personnel are planned as part of the investigation. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem.

The incident follows another tragic case in Haryana, where a drunk police officer allegedly ran over two brothers walking home from school, killing two and critically injuring the third.
Authorities have assured strict action while residents expressed concern over repeated cases of alleged drunken driving by police personnel in the area.
