Mumbai, Sep 17: Television actor Ashish Kapoor, who was arrested earlier this month on charges of allegedly raping a woman at a house party in Delhi, has been granted bail by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court. The actor expressed his relief through a message shared on Instagram, stating that the incident had reinforced his belief in the country’s judicial system.
Kapoor, known for his roles in popular shows including Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, thanked those who supported him during what he described as a difficult period. He wrote, “Following the recent incident, I’m filled with a deep sense of relief and gratitude. This experience has been a powerful reminder of the strength of our democracy and the principles enshrined in our constitution.”
He further added, “I have full faith in the legal system, and this outcome has only strengthened that belief. The diligent work of everybody ensured that justice was served, and the truth was brought to light. This is a testament that truth will always prevail.”
Kapoor was granted bail on September 10 by Additional Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh. The court ordered his release on a bail bond of Rs 1 lac and a surety of the same amount. The decision was made after considering case submissions, CCTV evidence, and the fact that Kapoor was no longer required for investigation.
He had been arrested on September 2 in Pune and brought to Delhi following a complaint filed by a woman who alleged that Kapoor had sexually assaulted her in a washroom during a party at a friend’s residence. The court had remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody on September 6 after police interrogation.
Investigators cited CCTV footage and witness statements indicating that both the accused and the complainant entered a washroom together and remained inside for an extended period. The case remains under legal scrutiny, but Kapoor’s bail marks a significant development in the proceedings.
