12 Maoists, including top commanders, surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur

Raipur, Sep 17: In a significant step forward in the fight against Maoist insurgency, twelve active Maoists surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Wednesday. The surrender took place before Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria and is being seen as a major achievement for the state’s ongoing anti-Naxal campaign.

Among the group were two high-ranking area committee members, considered critical to the Maoist network in the region. Officials confirmed that the total bounty on the surrendered individuals amounted to more than Rs 18 lakh. Of the twelve, five are women and seven are men, all associated with different arms of the banned outfit including LOS-CNM, PPCM, Military Latoon, and Jantana Sarkar.

Authorities believe the surrender highlights growing internal disillusionment within Maoist ranks, as well as increasing trust in the government's rehabilitation policies. The Chhattisgarh government’s reintegration strategy offers surrendering Maoists a path back into mainstream life, with support for housing, employment, and education.

Superintendent Guria stated that this latest development will not only disrupt Maoist operations in the area but also serve as a powerful signal to others still involved in the movement. The reward amounts previously declared on the surrendered members will now be nullified.

The surrender comes amid a nationwide effort to eliminate Maoism, led by the Union Home Ministry. Home Minister Amit Shah has set March 2026 as the deadline for complete eradication of the insurgency. So far, progress has been steady. In 2024, a total of 928 Maoists surrendered, while the first four months of 2025 have already seen 718 individuals lay down arms. Security forces have also neutralised over 240 Maoists in operations this year.

The Narayanpur surrender is being hailed as a morale booster for security forces and a validation of the twin-pronged strategy of strict security action paired with inclusive rehabilitation. As India pushes toward a Naxal-free future, such developments are expected to gain momentum in the months ahead.
