Kolkata, Sep 17: In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Kolkata Police on Wednesday dismantled a fake international call centre operation and arrested ten individuals, including the alleged kingpin, Javed Khan. The arrests were made following coordinated raids across multiple locations in the city after authorities received complaints of fraudulent calls targeting foreign nationals.

Officials said the racket was operating from at least two flats in Kolkata, where the accused posed as representatives of a global financial technology firm and contacted American citizens. They reportedly duped several foreign victims by offering bogus technical support services and fake money transfer schemes.

During the raids, police recovered over Rs 10 lakh in cash, ten mobile phones, eight laptops, ten high-end wristwatches, and a Wi-Fi router. Additionally, a significant quantity of gold was seized, along with three notebooks containing financial records of the gang's illicit transactions.

Two luxury vehicles—a Skoda Slavia and a Mahindra XUV—believed to be owned by the accused, were also impounded. Police said the prime accused, Javed Khan, was arrested from one of the raided properties and is suspected to have played a central role in coordinating the fraudulent operation.

An investigating officer stated that the scope of the racket could extend beyond the ten arrested individuals, hinting at the possible involvement of a larger network. Efforts are underway to identify other collaborators and trace the financial trail.

The arrested individuals are scheduled to be produced before a city court later in the day, where the police will seek custody to further probe the racket and uncover the full scale of the operation.
