Guwahati, Sep 15: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell in Assam unearthed a massive corruption trail on Monday, seizing over Rs 1.7 crore in cash and gold ornaments during coordinated raids at multiple locations linked to Nupur Bora, Circle Officer of Goroimari revenue circle in Kamrup, and her alleged accomplice, Surajit Deka, a Lat Mandal from Barpeta.
Officials confirmed that Rs 1.7 crore in cash, along with a significant haul of gold and diamond jewellery, was recovered from Bora’s flat in Gotanagar, Guwahati. The cash is being verified and counted with assistance from the State Bank of India.
The crackdown extended to Barpeta, where authorities recovered an additional Rs 10 lakh from Deka’s residence in Dangarkuchi. The raids began early Monday, shortly after both suspects returned to Guwahati from a brief visit to Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday night.

Sources revealed that Bora holds several bank lockers in Barpeta and Golaghat districts, which are now under scrutiny. Vigilance officials indicated the total value of disproportionate assets will only be known after locker inspections are completed.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing the media, stated,
“Nupur Bora illegally transferred land belonging to Hindus to illegal infiltrators during her tenure in Barpeta. She had been under surveillance for six months. Today, vigilance officials seized over Rs 1.7 crore from her residence. Strict action will follow.”
Bora, a 2019 Assam Civil Service officer, previously served in Barpeta and Karbi Anglong. Her name has surfaced in connection with a multi-crore land scam during her Barpeta posting, and fresh allegations of large-scale land irregularities emerged after her transfer to Kamrup.
Vigilance authorities say the raids are part of a broader investigation into corruption in land transactions and misuse of official power.
“The operation is ongoing, and we expect further revelations once all financial records and lockers are thoroughly examined,” an official said.
